Botany Team Leader

The Opportunity

Our well-established and highly-regarded Botany team requires a Senior-Principal level Botanist to establish a new role of Botany Team Leader. 

As the inaugural placement in this new role for the FVC business, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to put their stamp on the position. 

The role will require the following contributions: 

  • Leading, mentoring, coaching and contributing to the career development of the Botany team 
  • Leading and co-ordinating personnel contributing to botanical scopes of work 
  • Project management of individual projects for botanical assessments, monitoring and related scopes of work 
  • Over-arching management of the portfolio of botanical projects, including appropriate prioritisation and delegation 
  • Client relationship management  
  • Financial management of projects and budgets 
  • Tenders, proposals and quotes for botanical scopes of work 
  • Leading the delivery of botanical projects, and taking ultimate responsibility for: 
  • Study planning 
  • HSE, travel and logistics for field trips 
  • Field surveys/monitoring 
  • Managing relevant sub-consultants 
  • Technical review of assessment, monitoring and related reports 

Other contributions to technical delivery of botanical projects, which may include: 

  • Field participation 
  • Flora identifications 
  • Data management 
  • GIS/mapping 
  • Floristic analysis 
  • Technical reporting 
  • Assistance, as necessary, with the various technical and project management functions in technical teams outside the Botany team 

A remuneration package commensurate with experience level, inclusive of incentive bonuses applies to this role.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate: 

  • relevant tertiary qualification (degree minimum) in botany, ecology, biological science, environmental science or equivalent 
  • demonstrated familiarity with current Technical Guidance for flora and vegetation surveys 
  • proven track record in an environmental consulting team 
  • the ability to lead flora and vegetation assessments and monitoring programs, and undertake small assessments independently  
  • willingness to travel for some field assessments, including to remote locations 
  • familiarity with the flora of Western Australia in various bioregions 
  • experience in the preparation of technical biological assessment reports 
  • excellent written communication skills 
  • current Western Australian C-class driver’s licence 
  • take pride in delivering high-quality outputs 
  • enjoy being part of a high-performing and supportive team 
  • a can-do attitude and willingness to work harmoniously with valued clients and a high-performing and supportive team  

Candidates who meet the following criteria will be highly regarded: 

  • capabilities in the use of GIS software and spatial data management 
  • knowledge of and/or experience in zoological assessments, in addition to botanical expertise 
  • environmental impact assessment and approvals experience
