Welcome Steven!
We are very excited to introduce the first in-house member of FVC’s Zoology team, Steven Spragg.
Following on from a Bachelor of Science in Conservation and Wildlife Biology, Steven has about a decade of relevant experience in ecological roles, and a more recent emphasis in Zoology. In particular, Steven has specialist knowledge and skills in ornithology, with a 14-year track record in studying avifauna throughout Australia.
As well as being an experienced consultant, Steven has significant experience in rehabilitation, including seed collection, native plant propagation and revegetation implementation.
Steven’s field experience includes undertaking and leading biological assessments, including on mine sites, greenfield sites in remote locations and under harsh conditions. Survey techniques he is experienced in include bird banding, fauna trapping, snake handling and in-field identification of both fauna and flora, as well as post-survey analysis of camera trap footage. Steven is proficient in biological desktop assessments, data processing, statistical analysis, GIS and reporting in accordance with EPA guidance.
In addition to his technical capabilities, Steven is capable and experienced in project management and community stakeholder consultation, including in an environmental education capacity.
Steven is a self-proclaimed birding enthusiast with a knack for discovering rare and elusive species all over the State. In his spare time, he enjoys catching up with friends, bushwalking and volunteering as a tour guide. If it flies and it’s rare, you can be sure he’ll be there, binoculars in hand!
Warmest of welcomes to you, Steven!
